The Life-Changing Magic of County Government

with Commissioner Angela Conley (District 4), Chair Irene Fernando (District 2), and Commissioner Marion Greene (District 3)

You see them on the ballot. You might even hear about them on the news. They represent you in government, but do you know their names?

On this week’s edition of The Theater of Public Policy, we’re bringing three Hennepin County Commissioners to the stage to finally answer the question: “What is it you all do, anyways?” (Hint: it’s way more than you think).

We’ll talk about the fight to fund HCMC, how seven people decide how to spend 3 billion dollars, and why Hennepin County is shaped like the lovechild of Utah and Michigan. Then, Danger Boat’s cast of improvisers will perform on-the-spot comedy scenes about everything they’ve heard.

It’s a comedy show and an inside look into Hennepin County governance all wrapped up in one!

Tickets: $15 adv/$20 door

Doors: 6pm | Show: 7pm

Full restaurant and bar services are available at the theater. The venue is wheelchair-accessible. If you need additional accessibility accommodations, please contact info@dangerboat.net at least two weeks prior to the event.

About the Guests

Commissioner Angela Conley (District 4)

For over 25 years, Commissioner Conley has worked tirelessly to change systems at the macro level, both at the state and county, in ways that are holistic, person-first and seamless. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from St. Catherine University and Master’s degree in Public Administration from Hamline University. Now, she proudly serves as the first African American elected to the Hennepin County Board. Her top priority is including the voices of our families and communities in every decision the County makes that impact our lives.

Commissioner Conley continues to focus on housing as a fundamental human right, eliminating race-based disparities in Hennepin County and improving the health and well-being of all Hennepin County residents.

Chair Irene Fernando (District 2)

Dr. Irene Fernando currently serves as Hennepin County Commissioner for District 2 and was elected Board Chair in 2023. She is the youngest woman to serve in this position, and the first Filipino-American elected in the state of Minnesota. Irene lives in the Harrison neighborhood in North Minneapolis with her partner Kent and their dog Mimi.

Commissioner Marion Greene (District 3)

Marion Greene has served as Hennepin County Commissioner for the 3rd District since 2014. District 3 includes Downtown and Southwest Minneapolis and the entire suburb of St. Louis Park. Marion served as chair of the Hennepin County Board for four years, during which time she stewarded significant federal COVID relief funds, with an emphasis on public health response, racial equity, and affordable housing. Marion is currently Chair of the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority.

Marion is married to Bart Cannon, and is an adoring stepmom to two grown daughters. In her free time, she enjoys walking her dog and trying new recipes.

Looking to the future, Marion remains committed to building an interconnected region in which every resident can safely live, work, play, and go to school, as their most authentic selves, without fear of violence or deportation without due process.

What is the Theater of Public Policy (T2P2)?

A civic comedy institution is returning at a moment when people are overwhelmed by serious issues and exhausted by bad public conversation. The Theater of Public Policy (T2P2) uses humor to take the pressure off of serious conversations, sparking real conversation and helping audiences see issues in new ways.

Here’s how it works:

  • Shows open with a lively conversation with a newsmaker or policy wonk.

  • That conversation inspires a team of Minnesota’s most talented improvisers, who create entirely spontaneous sketches based on the interview.

  • The expert guest then answers questions from the audience.

  • The show wraps with one last round of improv from the cast.

It’s a totally unique blend of learning and laughter — and each show only happens once. Seeing is believing, so get your tickets to the next T2P2 show today!
