Gross Domestic Punchlines

Money makes the world go ‘round. But most of us aren’t thinking about The Economy™ when we pay up at the gas pump or the grocery store checkout. Plus, as those costs continue to rise, national conversations about money often seem frustrating, complicated, or out-of-touch.

In our first Theater of Public Policy show in 4 years, we’re diving into all things economical with two brilliant guests: MPR and Marketplace economics contributor Chris Farrell, and economist Louis Johnston.

During the show, we’ll ask our guests all the questions you’ve always wanted to ask — or never thought to. Then, our cast of improvisers will draw out insights through live, unscripted comedy scenes. You’ll learn something, and laugh a lot!

Trouble Brewing for Craft Beermakers

The craft beer boom of the 2010s has been hampered by a global pandemic, fewer people consuming alcohol, and most recently, the disruption of Operation Metro Surge and the threat of THC regulation. Can our beloved beer scene weather the storm, or is the Land of Ten Thousand Lagers drying up?

Sit back with your beverage of choice and join us for an evening of imbibing and improv with Bob Galligan from the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild.

The Life-Changing Magic of County Government

You see them on the ballot. You might even hear about them on the news. They represent you in government, but do you know their names?

On this week’s edition of The Theater of Public Policy, we’re bringing three Hennepin County Commissioners to the stage to finally answer the question: “What is it you all do, anyways?” (Hint: it’s way more than you think).

Is Laughter Contagious? (And Other Public Health Ponderables)

How concerned should I be about Hantavirus and Ebola? Should we still be wearing masks? And will a doctor be available at the show to check out this rash?

In this live show, we’ll discuss the ins and outs of infectious disease with Dr. Michael Osterholm, a world-renowned epidemiologist and the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota. After an uplifting conversation about the many ways we can die, we’ll bring our cast of improvisers to the stage to perform live, unscripted comedy scenes about everything they’ve heard.

You’ll leave the show with new knowledge, new laugh lines, and a newfound fear of recycled air. You won’t want to miss it!
