About Sketches of Minnesota

Sketches of Minnesota is a collaboration between Danger Boat Productions and the Minnesota Humanities Center. Now entering its third year, the project is a state-wide tour of cities in Minnesota. Every stop features a meal, a community conversation, and improv based on the civic issues and ideas that come up. The capstone of the tour is a series of fully produced scripted performances based on the tour stops.

Position Overview

The Production Manager for Sketches of Minnesota will be the point person for both Danger Boat Productions and a liaison to Minnesota Humanities Center on all logistics and contracts related to this project. They will work with internal Danger Boat staff and contractors as well as host community teams around the state of Minnesota. 

A successful candidate will have proficiencies:
– Coordinating multi-agency logistics across geographies and timelines
– Drafting different digital and print marketing materials with strong calls to action
– Leading production internally including coordinating casting and technical oversight
– Proactively building systems and solving organizational bottlenecks

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Management 

  • Oversee day-to-day production requirements in support of multiple deliverables across the project.

  • Collaborate with leadership and clients to identify performer and crew requirements for events.

  • Develop and manage systems to align event needs with multiple organizations, ensuring clear and timely communication.

  • Provide clear communication to all team members ensuring:

    • Role responsibilities, schedules, travel arrangements, and other production details

    • Rehearsal and performance attendance expectations

    • Changes to event logistics or show details

  • Ensure that the resources and support available to the projects are sufficient to achieve the artistic vision and excellence of the organization.

2. Logistical Management

  • Plan and coordinate logistics for remote performances, including travel, lodging, and meals for cast and crew.

  • Serve as a liaison with partners to coordinate venue technical and logistical capacity with show requirements.

  • Ensure proper record keeping, note taking, and documentation both internally and externally.

  • Manage limited performances for the full stage theatrical production

3. Strategic Partnerships

  • Track and manage client engagements in CRM systems (Pipedrive).

  • Support leadership in building and maintaining strong relationships with existing and potential clients.

  • Understand partner requirements, preferences, and objectives to tailor event solutions that exceed expectations.

  • Create systems based on organizational needs

4. Marketing Support

  • Assist with marketing support as needed across a variety of channels

  • Help with identifying target audiences and appropriate outreach methods

5. Other Productions

  • Provide support as needed with other Danger Boat projects

  • Work collaboratively the Danger Boat team to deliver engagements with a high level of success

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal. The ability to motivate and diplomatically hold others accountable

  • Strong systems-thinking ability, with experience in developing efficient organizational processes

  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines

  • Experience coordinating schedules, bookings, or similar logistical arrangements.

  • Background in managing event logistics

  • Ability and willingness to exercise professional courtesy and discretion at all times and maintain confidentiality as required

  • Must be able to work under the stress of deadlines and adapt to changing priorities

  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours/days reflective of the dynamic schedule of a theater and events company which might include occasional evenings or weekends

Preferred:

  • Experience working with artists, actors, or creative professionals

  • Background in theater, theater education, improv, or touring

  • Familiarity with tools such as Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, etc.), Pipe Drive, Canva, SquareSpace, or other systems

  • Knowledge of long-term logistical planning and scheduling tools

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment

  • Sales/invoicing experience 

  • Proven track record in client relationship management and business development
